Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions. For deeper explanations, follow the links.
Does Ilena autosave my work?
No. Saving is manual — Cmd/Ctrl+S or Work → Save. This is intentional: every save is a full version you can restore later, and autosaving would fill your history with noise. See The editor → Saving.
Where does my writing actually live?
Your work content is stored in Ilena's cloud infrastructure. Every save creates a new version, and there's no limit on how many a work can have — older text is never overwritten. See History & Versions.
Can I work offline?
No. Ilena needs a network connection to save, analyse lines, and look up words. If you lose connection mid-session, your current text stays in the editor until you refresh, but you won't be able to save until the connection is back — see Troubleshooting → My save failed.
What languages does Ilena support?
English, French, and Spanish, for both the app's own interface and the language of an individual work. The two are independent: your interface language is set in Settings, and each work has its own language field in its work details. A work's language drives its dictionary lookups and inspiration suggestions.
How accurate is the feet (syllable) counter?
It's a guide, not a verdict. Treat it as a signal to check your meter at a glance, not as ground truth. See The editor → The gutters.
What plans does Ilena offer?
Solo is the only plan you can buy today — unlimited works, the dictionary and rhymes, feet and emotion analysis, inspiration suggestions, and version history. Studio, for writing with a band or a team, is shown in the signup flow marked Coming soon and can't be selected yet. There's no free tier, though Solo's annual cycle includes a 30-day free trial before you're charged. See Signing up and choosing a plan.
Can multiple people edit the same work?
Not today. Each work belongs to a single author. Shared writing spaces are what Studio is for, once it ships — see the plans question above.
What export formats are supported?
PDF only, one work at a time. See Export.
Will deleting a work remove its version history?
Yes — deleting a work removes it and every version saved under it, and this can't be undone. If you only want to go back to an earlier version, use History & Versions instead of deleting.
I forgot my password — what do I do?
Click Forgot password? on the sign-in page. This is fully self-serve — no need to contact support. See Signing in, and password recovery.
How do I change my password, email, or delete my account?
Changing a password you still remember, updating your name or email, switching plans, or deleting your account aren't available from inside Ilena yet — that part of the app is coming. For now, write to [email protected] for any of it. See Settings → Your account — what's coming. (A forgotten password is different, and already self-serve — see the question above.)
I found a bug. How do I report it?
Open Help → How to get support from the app menu, and pick the category that fits — Technical support for bugs and usage problems, General questions for feedback and suggestions, or Business inquiries for partnerships. Include what you tried, what you expected, and what happened, plus a rough timestamp if you can. Typical response time is 1–2 business days.
